The Pearl - A Living Gem

Keshi is the Japanese word for “poppy seed” and the Keshi pearl is the “unintended” gift that often results as a consequence of the cultured pearl process. If an oyster’s shell is chipped during the insertion of the bead and left in the oyster, nature treats the shell piece as just another bead and a pearl may form. Alternately if the oyster rejects the bead before the pearl has properly formed a Keshi pearl may also be formed.

These small pearls are of indiscriminate shape, coloured with silvery hues and because they are pure “nacre” they enjoy a brilliant lustre and unique quality that makes them greatly admired.
